Solvent-Based Lamination (Dry Lamination)
Solvent-based lamination is a traditional method widely used in flexible packaging.
The adhesive contains solvent. After coating the adhesive onto the film, the material passes through a drying oven where the solvent evaporates before lamination.
Typical process:
Unwind → Adhesive coating → Drying oven → Lamination → Rewind
Solventless Lamination
Solventless lamination uses adhesives without solvent.
Because there is no solvent to evaporate, no drying oven is required, making the machine more compact and energy efficient.
Final Thoughts
In many flexible packaging factories, it is quite common to see both solvent-based laminating machines and solventless laminating machines used in the same production line. Different packaging structures and materials often require different lamination processes. For this reason, many converters prefer to keep both technologies available, allowing them to handle a wider range of packaging applications more efficiently.
